Welcome to Grupp Metall - History & Innovations
History
Gerhard Grupp founded a metal works in Großdeinbach, on one of the foothills of the Swabian mountains. With only 10 employees working at a small production plant, the company based its growth and development on well-conceived and consistent investments.
Gerhard Grupp realized that filing-free pipe shaping has a large market potential, and aimed its investments at purchasing of equipment for bending and finishing of hollow profiles.
At an early stage, the first automated CNC controlled bending machines were purchased in order to meet the growing requirements as regards quality and delivery. Apart from this, fully automatic sawing machines were installed with subsequently inbuilt brush deburring to increase the productivity even more.
Although the construction of additional works in the former East German states required a lot of energy and time, investments in the original parent factory were continued. Demands of an increasing number of clients for system suppliers resulted in the construction of a welding shop and purchasing of the first robots.
After several months of negotiations with relevant services and authorities, the Eishausen/Thuringia branch was set up as a company. With the assistance of the Minister of Trade and Commerce at the time, Mr. Möllemann, who, in a private talk with Gerhard Grupp, became aware of his idea about an active support needed for the rebuilding of the former East Germany, finally it was possible to clarify the property situation and establish a computer-controlled works on another site.
The branch, which meanwhile employed 11 workers, was awarded a several-year's job of sawing special profile axle casing. A fully automatic machine for mitre cuts was purchased.
Investments were made in a new welding technology: TIG welding with a welding robot. Thus it was possible to immediately have visually perfect seams. In the same year a complete production engineering was installed for the manufacture of special suction pipes.
Reorganization of administration. A state-of-the-art DP system was installed to cover the entire process chain of the company.
Once again, the continuously growing company had to face the problem of lack of space. Therefore, on 1 July another production site was purchased in Waldhausen. The area of 6,000 sqm provided a site for a new assembly shop and a warehouse for finished parts.
Grupp Metall takes over the metal production of a rehabilitation equipment manufacturer in France and becomes an important supplier of the world health care market leader.
Grupp Metall supports one of the leading office furniture manufacturers in the outsourcing of its metal parts and takes over a substantial part of its production. This doubles the volume in this business sector
In the course of increasingly closer customer relationships, Grupp Metall expands its assembly/logistics division in Waldhausen. This benefits all product lines and customers, as Grupp Metall now supplies even more complete systems and helps its customers to reduce production depth and logistics costs.
Grupp Metall is led by a new General Manager. After 36 years, Gerhard Grupp passes on the management of his company to his son-in-law, Michael Bilzer. This sets the course for a continuation of operations and further forward-looking developments
Grupp Metall is an eventful year. becomes a systems supplier in the fields of parts transport systems and rehabilitation equipment for complete assemblies. In this connection, a design and development department is set up, which deals with the realisation of customers’ requirements and the development of new products.
Due to the introduction of an ERP-system Grupp lays its base for a controlled process-management. Because the whole process-chain was involved in this, it was a a logical consequence to get a confirmation for the complete controlling of all business fields by an independend organisation. Therefore the certification of the quality management system according to the ISO 9001 was lead through by the DEKRA in September an the certificate was given on the first try.
Studies of the market show a clear trend to more high sophisticated products. Because of this Grupp took the route to ambitious furniture frames already in 2007. The goal was to gain ground in the premium level. 2008 the big throw happened. Due to the takeover of the "MEYER Stahlmöbel Collection" gets its position as a manufacturer of highly designed furniture in the top class.
In its new status as a manufacturer and outfitter for dealers and business Grupp gets enormous input from the market. The animations from the customers guide it to the creation of a further brand "ease". Because of the new portfolio Grupp can present extraordinary and ambitious furniture in the mid-price level.
